Cardio fitness tracks closely with how long, and how well, people live.
VO2 max is the most oxygen your body can use during hard exercise. In large studies, higher cardiorespiratory fitness has been strongly linked with lower risk of early death.
It’s also changeable. Training can raise it at most ages, and testing gives you a real starting point rather than an estimate from a watch.
What the test can tell you
Your VO2 max
How many calories you burn at rest
When your body favors fat or carbohydrate
Your personal heart rate training zones
What to expect

The test
You’ll wear a fitted mask and exercise as the intensity gradually builds. You can stop at any time.

Your results
You’ll get a printout covering your fitness and metabolism, which can be combined with your InBody results.
4
Use the numbers
Your results shape your training zones and your Delos Fit program, and a repeat test shows what’s changed.
Questions
What patients ask Dr. Gurrala.
What is a metabolic scan?
It is a test of how your body uses oxygen and burns fuel. At Delos Longevity in Sterling, Virginia, we do it with PNOĒ breath analysis, which shows your VO2 max, how many calories you burn at rest, and when your body favors fat or carbohydrate. It can be combined with an InBody scan into one printout.
What is a good VO2 max?
It depends on your age and sex, so your result is best read against people like you. More important is your own trend over time. Delos Longevity tests VO2 max with PNOĒ in Sterling, Virginia, and explains what yours means.
Do I need to be fit to take the test?
No. The effort is scaled to you and the test is supervised. Tell us about any health conditions first, and we may ask you to see Dr. Gurrala before you do it.
Can I improve my VO2 max?
Most people can, with consistent cardio and interval training. Delos Fit can build that into your program.
